The session featured speakers from both companies who shared their expertise on physical security infrastructure and innovative solutions to tackle common issues such as vaping and bullying in schools.

• George Salter Academy: Implementation of cabling and CCTV solutions covering school entrances, corridors, play areas, sports areas, and car parks to enhance security.
• Higher Education: Long-term partnerships with universities such as Southampton, Glasgow, and Sussex, delivering advanced cabling solutions and creating secure comms room environments.

Verkada's innovative security solutions

Founded in 2016, Verkada has rapidly grown to serve over 30,000 customers worldwide. Their unique hybrid cloud-based platform offers a range of security solutions, including:

• CCTV: High-definition cameras with real-time monitoring capabilities.
• Access control: Secure entry systems integrated with identity providers like Okta and Azure AD.
• Environmental sensors: Devices that monitor air quality, temperature, and humidity, helping to reduce vaping and other environmental concerns.
• Intruder alarms and intercoms: Systems designed to enhance situational awareness and response times.

Tackling vaping and bullying

One of the key topics discussed was the issue of vaping in schools. It was explained how Verkada's air quality sensors can detect vaping incidents and send real-time alerts to designated staff members. This technology not only helps identify vaping but also addresses associated issues like bullying. By pairing sensors with cameras, schools can monitor and respond to incidents more effectively.

Cloud-based security management

Verkada's hybrid cloud-based system allows for seamless management of security devices from anywhere. Whether it's one camera or hundreds across multiple campuses, the platform provides a single pane of glass for monitoring and sharing footage. Features like automatic firmware updates and AI-powered searching enhance the user experience and streamline security operations.

Custom lockdown scenarios

In light of recent legislative changes, such as Martin's Law, Verkada's cloud-based lockdown capabilities were highlighted. Schools can create custom lockdown scenarios, ensuring they can secure their premises in potential incidents. This feature is crucial for compliance and enhancing the safety of students and staff.
